AAMS+ (AA Audio Music Server Plus) uses simplified power supply with cost-no-object components such as Mundorf MLytic smoothing capacitors and Nuvotem Talema epoxy-encapsulated toroidal transformers. The use of independent transformer for each power supply rail brings the performance to a different level.
Simplified LPSU
Mundorf MLytic capacitors are large and require space. It remains challenging to build a fully linear PSU which employs Mundorf MLytic smoothing capacitor for all rails, hence the use of PicoPSU for motherboard power supply. 12V 3A goes into the PicoPSU. Another LPSU rail supplies 5V 1.5A x 3 for up to 3 storage devices.
For each of the 12V and 5V LPSU, independent 80VA Nuvotem Talema epoxy-encapsulated toroidal transformers are used. These are the highest grade toroidal transformer available from Nuvotem Talema.
For USB2 Isolator, another board uses Talema PCB-mount encapsulated toroidal transformer which supplies 5V 1.5A. LT1963A voltage regulator from Analog Devices / Linear Technology is used for second stage regulation.
PicoPSU is shown below connected to the motherboard ATX power supply connector.
When the SSD tray is assembled, this is the final look.
